Indiana State Police is advising families of an active scam related to child safety popping up around the state.
Facebook users are warned NOT to provide any personal information to the #ChildSafetyKit Facebook link. It appears to offer a Child Safety Kit by clicking on the link.
ISP said some who’ve provided personal information on the link have received phone calls to schedule in-home visits from well-dressed men attempting to sell an “insurance policy” as part of the service.
ISP officials say these scammers are trying to gain trust and confidence by falsely claiming to be associated with ISP, and that is a lie. They want access to your personal identity and financial information, and to gain voluntary entry into your home, possibly with the intent to commit further crime such as burglary. Hoosiers are urged not to allow these scammers into their homes.
A Richmond woman told Western Wayne News she received a call from someone claiming to be a retired doctor asking how COVID-19 affects kids ages 10 to 15 and wanting to make home visits. That call also has been reported to state police.
ISP says residents should always beware of any online solicitations requesting personal information, protect their identity, Social Security Number, credit card and bank account information, and never provide any personal information to unknown online source, including their name/address/phone number.
Those who have been threatened or victimized by a scam, especially if you have allowed these individuals access into your home, are urged to report this activity to your local law enforcement agency or ISP’s Pendleton Post at (800) 527-4752.
