Steven Michael Stemler, 69, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born on October 6, 1953, in Seymour, Indiana, a son of the late William Frederick and Sarah Elizabeth (Broady) Stemler.

Steve had an amazing sense of humor, was very giving, and never held a grudge. He was always positive and encouraged everyone he met. He loved his family and was very proud and always boasting to others about them. He wanted to be constantly surrounded by his kids. Steve worked hard to provide for his family.

He was a 1972 graduate of Beech Grove High School and following a couple of years in college joined the US Air Force. After his service in the military, Steve worked for the Indianapolis Police Department and sold automobiles for a while before settling into a career as a Union Truck Driver. He drove for Holland and Yellow Trucking. Steve was member of Teamsters Local 135. In his downtime, he enjoyed playing golf, listening to Jimmy Buffet, smoking cigars, savoring Long’s Donuts, and watching NCIS. He loved vacationing in Mexico, fishing, hunting, horses, mowing his grass, and especially sitting on the front porch or around the campfire with his family.

Those left to cherish Steve’s memory include his loving wife, Carrie Stemler; children, Logan Stemler of Hagerstown, Keaton (Fania) Stemler of Richmond, Sarah Beth Stemler of New Castle, Brittany (Joshua) Milo of Florence, WI, Patrick (Carly) Henry of Butler, and Nicholas (Ashlie) Henry of Angola; two grandchildren, Aubriella and Abel Henry; his sisters and brothers, Debbie (Steve) Westra of Villa Grove, CO, Jane Stemler of Greencastle, Dave (Kyra) Stemler of Coal City, Pam (Glen) Collins of Milan, Tina (Bob) Rogers of Oceanside, CA, Tim Traylor of Greencastle, and Amy (Andrew) Wisdom of St. Augustine, FL; his best friend, Monty (Jinger) Anderson of Daytona, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his step-mother, Annabelle Stemler. and by a brother, William Stemler.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, March 31, 2023 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with military funeral honors provided by contingents from the US Air Force and the local American Legion and VFW Honor Guard.
