Sally L. Spaethe, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Saturday, January 7, 2023.

Sally was born November 15, 1934, in North Manchester, Indiana. She had lived in Richmond since 1995, moving here from Canton, Ohio. While raising her family, she worked as a dental hygienist, served as a volunteer at Lutherwood in Indianapolis and Reid Hospital, was a substitute teacher, and was a foster parent for many years. Sally was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She enjoyed being involved in the Indiana AAU swimming program, she loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her daughters, Rebekah (David) Blankenship of Indianapolis, Indiana and Deborah Willhelm of Richmond; sons, David (Hilah) Spaethe of Beech Grove, Indiana, Thomas (Trisha McGregor) Spaethe of Indianapolis, and Matt Spaethe of Oregon; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband David “Burt” Spaethe, who died in 2020 after 68 years of marriage; son, Dr. Stephen Spaethe; and her parents.

Funeral service for Sally L. Spaethe will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 121 South 18th Street, Richmond. with Rev. Robert Meckley officiating. Burial will be in Marion National Cemetery, 1700 E 38th St, Marion, IN 46953. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
