Martha Ann (Hutson) Michael, 95, New Castle, died Feb. 13, 2023.

She was born August 20, 1927 in New Castle, Indiana, to Everett William Hutson and Gertrude Lynn Keesling Hutson, the second of 6 children, all of which preceded her in death. She grew up on a farm on SR 38, 3 miles west of New Castle.

Martha was a sweet, kind, and gentle person, always putting others first. She loved researching her family history, taking daily walks, spending time with her family, eating out, and keeping her yard in perfect shape. She attended the First Friends Church in New Castle.

Martha went to Sugar Grove School, a two-room schoolhouse which is still standing on SR 38, 2 miles west of New Castle, for grades 1 through 8. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1945. She then graduated from Indiana Business College in Muncie.

She married Pat Richard Michael on Sep. 26, 1947, at the Trinity Methodist Church in New Castle. They had two children, Diane and Cheryl. After his passing, she found a special partner in John Goff and they were together for 13 years.

Martha’s employment included 31 years at Ingersoll Steel working as secretary to the Plant Manager and Personnel Director, in data entry and billing, and as a computer programmer. Following that up with jobs at Voest-Alpine Steel, Chapin-Hayworth Insurance, and her daughter, Diane’s company, TEC Associates.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Pat Michael; special partner, John Goff; her parents, and her siblings, Everett Milton Hutson, Mary Lea Apple, Marlin Hutson, Miron Hutson, and Marvin Hutson.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Michael of Pendleton and Cheryl Michael of Fishers; 3 grandsons Greg (Bridget) Owens of Noblesville, Jeremy Owens of Indianapolis, and Eric Buell of Washington state; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler Owens, Alexis Owens, and Hutton Owens. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Howard of Louisville, 7 Hutson nieces and nephews, Marlena Dodd, Nancy Apple, Julie Hardwick, Kandi Mitchell, Sarah Pritt, Peggy Apple, and Stephen Hutson; Michael nieces and nephews, Nina Ravetto deceased, Nancy Morrill, Judy Hatley, Kent Poe deceased, Jackie Michael deceased, Jim “Skip” Michael, Kathy Michael deceased, Connie Poe, Billie Michael, Tony Poe, April Winters, and Samantha Michael.

Visitation is 1-2 pm Friday, Feb 17, 2023 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Services at 2 pm with Rev. Rick Schoeff of First Friends Church officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens 3 miles west of New Castle on SR 38.
