Glenda Odell Shearer was born to Emma and James Bates on June 23, 1945, in Richmond, KY. She departed this life on Saturday, March 25, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.

She grew up in Richmond, KY, and graduated from Richmond High School. On June 17, 1962, in Richmond, KY, she was united in holy matrimony to Alfred Shearer. Into that union, three children were born; Anthony, Andre, and Glentoria.

She was a loyal member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Greenwood Apartments as Secretary until her health hindered her service. After 30 years of service, she retired from GTE and recently worked at Reid Memorial Hospital.

Glenda enjoyed teaching, mentoring and helping others achieve their fullest potential.  She enjoyed playing tennis, skating, Zumba, aerobics, knitting, sewing, buying shoes and purses, and cooking. She loved spending time with her children, family, and friends. Glenda had perseverance, and if you told her to go left, she would go right and show you how that was the correct choice from the beginning.  This is how she fought cancer and kept the cancer at bay for many years.  Glenda was always trying to keep up to date on the latest technology,

taking computer classes and best believe if there was a new cooking gadget she had it.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Emma Hanes, father James Glenmore Bates, daughter Glentoria Shearer, and mother-in-law Lecora White. Glenda is survived by her loving and caring husband of 60 years, Alfred Shearer; son Anthony (Tracey) Shearer and granddaughter Chloe of Miami, Florida; granddaughter Shauntee Means-Williams of Richmond, IN; son Andre Rodell Shearer of Richmond, IN; sisters Mary Mickles, Pamela Belcher, and Christiana Bates and brother James Bates Jr, all of Columbus, OH. Brother-in-law Ronald (Kim) White of Richmond, IN. Aunt-in-law Ida Vivian Kavanaugh and children of Cincinnati, OH, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 12 Noon.  Family and friends may call Friday at the church two hours prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Earlham Cemetery.  Send online condolences to the family via the guestbook at www.communityfamilyfh.com
