George Hugh Lee, 80, of rural New Castle, died at his home Sunday, February 5, 2023 following an extended illness. Born July 7, 1942, Hugh was raised in Greensboro, the son of George and Lydia (Pemberton) Lee.
Hugh was a 1960 graduate of Knightstown High School and attended Ball State University. He retired as a millwright (UAW Local 663) after 33 years with GM’s Guide Division in Anderson. An avid reader, he always had a book nearby. Hugh was a 56-year member of Cadiz Christian Church, where he served as a teacher, elder, and mentor to many. Hugh was passionate about his family, his faith, and his church.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters (& their spouses) Doris (Kedric) Wallace, Betty (Carl) Stonerock, Coleen (Arnold) Turpin, sister Bertie Lou Lee, and brother-in-law Donnie Wallace.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol (Matthews) Lee; children Julia (Greg) Grant, Kim (Glenn) Hughes, and David (Kelly) Lee; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-children, sister Nelle Wallace, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Cadiz Christian Church at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 10, 2023. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Friday with the funeral immediately following, officiated by Jeff Johnson. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cadiz Christian Church, 4894 W.
