Donald E. Ramsey, age 89, of Richmond, Indiana, died Friday, January 6, 2023, at home.

Don was born July 1, 1933, in Richmond, Indiana, to Canada and Callie Townsend Ramsey. He was a 1951 graduate of Richmond High School and attended Earlham College. Don proudly served in the United States Army in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was a life-long resident of Richmond but did live for several years in Louisiana during his over 40-year employment with Belden as a Development Engineer. Don was a member of the American Legion Harry Ray Post #65, Loyal Order of Moose, and Belden 25-year Club. He enjoyed playing cards – especially Sheepshead, ping pong, and spending time with family. Don was generous to a fault and had volunteered for many years at the library and the Senior Citizen’s center helping people prepare their taxes.

Survivors include his sons, Tom (Ann) Ramsey of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Ron Ramsey of Richmond, John (Monica) Ramsey of Mamou, Louisiana, Jerry (Bertie) Ramsey of Hagerstown, Indiana, and Donald (Kim) Ramsey of Richmond; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, James Ramsey and Charles (Linda) Ramsey, of Richmond; nieces; nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Leona Kelly Ramsey, who died on January 20, 2018; parents; sister, Betty Howell, brother, Chester Ramsey; half-sisters, Nellie Veach and Goldie Kovach; daughter-in-law, Gale Ramsey; and sister-in-law, Loretta Ramsey.

Visitation for Donald E. Ramsey will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip Hodgkin officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery’s Veteran’s Field of Honor with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
