Deloris “Dokie” J. Barker, 81, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on August 26, 1941 in Carter County, KY, a daughter of the late James Ollie Royse and Ada (Clark) Royse.

Dokie was a 1959 graduate of Olive Hill High School. A homemaker all of her life, Dokie’s dearest joy was her family and she especially adored babies. She enjoyed following her family’s sporting events and gardening and traveling with her late husband, Charles.

Dokie is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (Bill) Stokes of Mooreland; sons, Joe (Carrie) Barker of Las Vegas NV, Dave (Gena) Barker of New Castle; 8 grandchildren, Lindsay, Mandy, Andrea, Justin, Mara, Devra, Alan, Bailey; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Ollie Daniel (Mable) Royse of Winchester, KY, Paul Dee Royse of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law, Mildred Denton, Dessie Fox and Jackie Barker; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Deloris is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Barker; son, Chuck Barker; siblings, James Elmer Royse, Wilna Crisp, Billy Royse, Benny Royse, Pearl “Pug” Stephens, Clayton Lee Royse, Chester Royse and Clester Royse.

Services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Primitive Baptist Cemetery in Greensfork. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
