Charles “Chuck” Edward Yencer, age 78, of Richmond, Indiana, died Thursday, January 26, 2023, at IU Methodist Hospital.
Born November 23, 1944, in Richmond, Indiana, to Foster Raymond and Kathryn Sommers Yencer, Chuck was a life-long resident of Richmond. He attended Richmond High School and pursued a career in music, playing drums with his band called the Melody Makers. Chuck also worked at the Welco factory where he met his wife, Kathy. He eventually worked for Alcoa where he retired. Chuck was an avid woodworker, carpenter, and golfer. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where he was very active in youth basketball, Sunday School, and served as a deacon and a Gideon. He loved traveling to the east coast to spend time at the beach and visiting the various lighthouses.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Ponder) Yencer; brothers Tom (Roseann Manone) Yencer, and Kerry (Kay dec.) Yencer; sister-in-law Glenna “Cacus” Ponder Marker; son, Charles Edward (Sara Martin) Yencer Jr.; daughters, Kathy (Doug) Cones, Brenda Yencer, Debra Mello, Angela Yencer; stepdaughter, Lisa Shehan; 8 grandchildren who he loved playing and visiting; and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an aunt, Gladys (Sommers) Baldwin; sisters, Gay Yencer and Jackie (Yencer) Trotter; brother Foster “Bud” Yencer.
Visitation for Charles Edward Yencer will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 1601 South A Street, Richmond, Indiana with Jack Doyle officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
