Beryl Wesler, age 90, of New Paris, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at home peacefully with family at his side.

Born May 18, 1932, in New Paris, Ohio, to Frank and Gertrude Hawley Wesler, Beryl was a life-long resident of this area. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1950. The U. S. Army called him to service during the Korean Conflict, where he was a helicopter mechanic. Beryl married Phyllis Pierson on January 27, 1957.  He became a private pilot in 1965 and flew privately for 44 years.  Beryl played trumpet in the Richmond American Legion Band and later in the Eaton Community Band.   He was a 4H leader for 12 years and was a member of The National Trail Booster Club. Beryl was a member on the Board of the Preble County Council on Aging for 8 years.  He played hand bells for the Central United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.  Beryl was co-owner of Wesler Orchards for 40 years and worked there for many more years.  He belongs to the Centerville Classic Car Club.  Beryl owns a 1923 Model T and is a member of the Model T Club of America. Beryl and his wife traveled to 28 foreign countries and to all 50 states. His family hosted many foreign exchange students and teachers.   He was a member of the American Legion Post #365 in New Paris. Beryl and his wife, Phyllis, were honored to be chosen as Preble County’s Outstanding Senior Citizens, receiving the award in 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, David (Mary) Wesler of New Paris Ohio, and Michael (Cathy) Wesler of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Jordan (Rachel) Wesler, Jeffrey (Ansley) Wesler, Kate Wesler, Leslie (Scott) Abbey, Meghan (Joel) Rollins; great grandchildren, Frank Abbey, Sebastian Abbey, Tristan Rollins, Dylan Abbey, Finnigan Abbey, Harrison Wesler, Hadley Wesler, and a great granddaughter expected in June; brother, Meredith (Wanda) Wesler;  nieces; nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn McWhinney and her husband, Norlan; brother, Duane Wesler and his wife Edith.

Visitation for Beryl Wesler will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond, Indiana. Additional visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Seger officiating. Burial and military honors will be in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio.

The family would like to thank the staff and nursing in Oncology at Reid Health for their care during his illness, including Dr. Jennifer Olsen, Dr. Sulfi, Chelsea, and his home caregivers, Anne Marie, Brandy, Danell, Kelsi and Melinda.
