Almeda Smith, age 95, of Centerville, Indiana, and formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Sunday, January 29, 2023, at The Springs.

Born September 20, 1927, in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, to Willie and Elizabeth Carpenter Smith, Almeda had lived in Centerville for 35 years. She was employed at Ohio Bell Telephone, first as a switchboard operator and then retired from Human Resources. Almeda was the Secretary of the Centerville Merchants Association and was a member of Telephone Company Pioneers of Ohio Bell Telephone. She and her sister were the owners of Antiques and Things in Centerville and she also enjoyed shopping for antiques. Almeda will be remembered as a favorite aunt and will be mourned by every department store in town.

Survivors include her sister, Dot Markey of Richmond and brother, Barry (Karen) Smith of Zionsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elva Lakes, Freeda Lakes, Fern Lake, Argie Johnson, and Dereda Bird; and brothers, Shelby Smith and Gary Smith.

Visitation for Almeda Smith will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery.
