Edward Roy Meek, 85, died Tuesday, March 7, 2023, of natural causes at his home in Winchester. He was born November 12, 1937, the only child of Virgil Edward Meek and Mabel Jane Carter Meek.

Roy graduated from Winchester High School in the Class of 1956 and was a lifelong resident of Winchester. Roy was a commercial artist working, at first, from his home studio, specializing in portraits. He started china painting in 1972 and became known worldwide for his hand painted china, lamps, antique lamp globes, vases and plates, each painted with precise detail. He opened “The China Shop” on the east side of the Winchester square in 1975. He added video rental movies and tropical fish when he moved to the northeast corner of Main St. and Franklin St. in 1988. He re-named the business “Meek’s Video and Gifts.” In 1992, Roy moved the business again to the west side of the square. He retired in 2019 after a career of 45 years in retail.

Roy is survived by several first cousins: Joan Borton, Huber Heights, OH; Sharon Carpenter, Washington, PA; Pat Knasinski, Winchester, IN; David Meek, Greenwood, IN; Caryl Stebleton, Mansfield, OH; Susan Symons, Winchester, IN, and Della Massey, Winchester, IN. Memorial donations may be made in memory of Roy to the Randolph County Animal Shelter, 900 N. West St., Winchester, IN 47394. Wilson Shook Funeral Home has provided services. Burial is at Fountain Park cemetery. Graveside services for the family will be held at a later date.
