William (Bill) Roots, age 84, passed away on Friday September 16, 2022, at Reid Hospital.

He was born February 16, 1938, in Richmond to Francis P. Roots and Mary E. Roots. He was a 1956 graduate of Richmond High School. Bill worked 40 years at Kemper Cabinets. After retirement at Kemper, in 1996, he was employed at several places.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and was an ordained Deacon. He taught Sunday school and had an outreach ministry for many years at Cherish Nursing Center and Arbor Trace. Bill was an avid Elvis Presley fan and collector and also loved astronomy.

Bill loved his wife, family and many friends in the community.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ada Roots. They were married in Richmond on March 22, 1963; his children Jerry (Lori) Roots, Lisa (Terry) Grubbs and Liz (Troy) Showalter, all from Richmond; grandchildren Jessica (Josh) Myers of Fountain City, Brittany (Andy) Borgwardt of Richmond, Wade Wright (Theresa Stuart) of Richmond and Mitch Wright of Hagerstown; great grandchildren Emily of Fountain City; Alissa and Kenzie of Richmond. Special nieces and nephews and many brothers and sisters in Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard Roots, sister Pat Hymer and his beloved yorkie Haley.

Services for Bill will be held at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary on Wednesday September 21, 2022 at 1:00 P.M with a visitation from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Pastor Charles McMahon will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in Elkhorn Cemetery.
