Willard H. Newman, 98, of Economy, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
He was born in Williamsburg on August 17, 1924 to John and Maude (Tharp) Newman and was a life-long Wayne County resident. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. A dairy farmer for more than 40 years, Willard was active in multiple agricultural and youth-serving organizations including 4-H, the Wayne County Fair Board, and the Wayne County Extension Office. He was a member of the Economy United Methodist Church and the Economy Lions Club.
Survivors include 5 children, Pam Anderson, Jo Ann Hill, Randy Newman (Hillary), Leah Nellis (Steve), Ryan Newman; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Zip.
He was preceded in death by wives Joyce Newman (d. 1953) and Beverly Sue Newman (d. 1996), son Mike Newman, son-in-law Kenton Anderson, and siblings Lucille Shaffer, Herschel Newman, Wayne Newman, and Bobby Newman.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 20, at Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown. Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 21 at Economy United Methodist Church. Pastors Charlie Black and Paul Bala Samura will officiate. Burial will be at the Economy Cemetery.
