Robert Stephen “Steve” McKown, 84, of New Castle, passed away on the morning of Thursday, October 20, 2022, at home.

He was born on June 14, 1938, in New Castle, a son of the late Robert Earl and Thelma (Kendall) McKown.

Steve was a 1956 graduate of New Castle High School and attended Tri-State University in Angola. Following his freshman year of college, he returned home and became a Die Designer at Chrysler Corporation. Steve retired in 1991 but enjoyed consulting at Chrysler until 1994. Steve loved to play golf and fish. He enjoyed bowling when he was young. Steve and his companion, Pat, enjoyed wintering in Ruskin, Florida, where he loved to play shuffleboard and became an International Amateur Shuffleboard Player. Steve also loved to play poker and played in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, NV.

Those left to cherish Steve’s memory include a son, Mike McKown, of New Castle; two grandchildren, Addison McKown of Indianapolis and Blake McKown of New Castle; a sister, Beki McKown, of Mt. Summit, and his companion of many years, Pat Cummings.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Amy (Hembree) McKown, and an infant son, Robert Todd McKown.

Per Steve’s wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
