Robert Dean Crowe, 82, a resident of New Castle passed away Thursday, December 22, 2022 at his home. He was born January 31, 1940 near Wolcott, Indiana, the son of Buford and Florence Mae (Hanna) Crowe.
Robert graduated from Remington High School in 1958. He attended Ball State University on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a BS degree in 1962, earning a MA degree in 1967 and an E.DS degree in 1984. Robert retired in 2005 after 43 years in education. He was a coach, counselor, college counselor and served as principal at Rensselaer Middle School and Rensselaer High School, Rensselaer, Indiana, Parkview Middle School, New Castle, Indiana and Tri High School, Straughn, Indiana.
While in education he served on the North Central Association Board, National Middle School Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, Indiana Association of School Principals, Indiana Principals Leadership Academy, and was a board member of the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
As an active member of the community, Robert graduated from one of the first Henry County Leadership Academies. He served as President of the New Castle and Tri High Optimist Clubs, was President of the United Way Board, YMCA Board, and the Henry County Retired Teachers Association. Robert was a volunteer and board member of Meals on Wheels and a regular volunteer at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Bob also served on the Scholarship committee of the Henry County Community Foundation.
“Bob” loved to watch NCAA basketball, football, major league baseball, and NASCAR.
Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carla (Kirk) Crowe; a daughter, Stacy Crowe Thomas of Plainfield, Indiana and a son, Lance Michael Crowe (wife Cathy) of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Robert’s grandchildren are Leslie Mae Ayers of Indianapolis, Indiana, Clayton Edward Ayers of North Vernon, Ohio and Jaxson Greggory Thomas of Cloverdale, Indiana. He is also survived by four brothers, Richard James Crowe (wife Brenda) of Wolcott, Indiana, William Eugene Crowe (wife Trudy) of Carthage, Missouri, David Michael Crowe (wife Diane) of Willis, Texas and Thomas Joe Crowe (wife Mary Jane) of Willis, Texas. Robert is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Thomas.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Rod Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Henry County Community Foundation, P.O.
