Raylene Lorene Hutchings of Richmond passed away due to health complications at Reid Hospital Monday, December 19th, 2022. She was born August 4th, 1940 Cambridge City to Ira and Charlotte (McKessick) Swindell in their home, and spent most of her life in Richmond. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1958 and worked as a Relief Operator at Alcoa/Silgan for 29 years before retiring in 2003. She married the love of her life John R. Hutchings November 4th, 1962 and they had 3 wonderful children together.
Raylene was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She never met a stranger and loved regaling those around her with stories about her life and family. In her spare time she loved going out with her best friend of 63 years Shirley Hawkey, and she also enjoyed putting together puzzles (especially Thomas Kinkade), coloring, doing crossword puzzles, playing games, was an avid bowler, and loved spending time with family and friends whenever she could. Raylene had a smile that could light up a room, a laugh that was infectious, and a gentle soul.
Raylene is survived by her husband John of Richmond, IN, her children Zina (Joe) Compton of Indianapolis, Royce (Larry) Hutchings-Chandler of Dayton, OH, Daughter-in-Law Ashley Hutchings of Indianapolis, Her grandchildren Jinian (Jake) Iavarone of West Allis, WI, Clark, Jarrod, and Chloe Hutchings of Indianapolis, Great grandchildren Sebastian and Evelyn Iavarone, as well as several friends and extended family. She is preceded in death by her son Christopher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in the chapel at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Chalk officiating. The burial for Raylene will be in Elkhorn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the funeral home.
