Pearl V. Lamb, age 102, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at home surrounded by family.

Born April 9, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, to John B. and Mary E. Doyle Hodowal, Pearl moved to Richmond in 1927 when her father was transferred here by Joseph Belden and was charged with setting up the machine shop for the Belden plant. Pearl attended Centerville High School where she was the captain of the girls’ basketball team, was voted Miss Centerville, and graduated mid-term her senior year. After high school, Pearl took nursing and clerical classes. She volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II. She met the true love of her life, Robert L. Lamb through her brother John’s friendship with him, and they were married on November 5, 1949, and were together for 45 years until he passed in 1994. Together, they had three children.

Pearl was a wonderful mother, her main interest in life was her children. She wanted each one to be happy and healthy. Her love for her children was reflected in how much they loved her. Pearl was very proud of her Irish heritage and for being from Chicago’s South Side Irish. She loved to play bingo, pull tab tickets, and cards. If she was playing Euchre, you wanted to be her partner because she was the best player at the table. Pearl was such a strong woman. When she was 98 years old, she was still driving the new red Lexus her son gave her (she was so proud of it) and going to bingo 3 nights a week. She NEVER complained of an ache or pain. Pearl would never say she felt bad, she was always ready to go no matter whether it was shopping, bingo, or just a ride in the car.

Survivors include her children, Cathleen (Donald) Ponder, Robert Lamb, and Lisa Lamb-Smith; grandchildren, Zachary and Joshua Ponder, Aaron and Vanessa Lamb, and Colin Smith; great-grandchildren, Zander Ponder and Olivia Lamb.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Marion Puthoff; and brothers, John and William Hodowal.

Visitation for Pearl Veronica Lamb will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Scalf officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery
