Mary Kaye Hunteman, age 79, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Reid Health.

Born December 3, 1942, in Greencastle, Indiana, to Arthur N. and Madelyn M. Mark Wright, Mary Kaye has been a long-time resident of this community for 45 years, coming here in 1977. Prior to coming to Richmond, in 1972 Mary Kaye earned her master’s degree in Teaching from Indiana State University. She was an English teacher at Dennis Middle School, Richmond High School and Ivy Tech Community College retiring in 2012. Mary Kaye loved reading and really enjoyed marching band music. She traveled to the Indiana State Fair band contest for many years. Mary Kaye was a basketball fan for IU, Richmond High School, and Indiana Pacers. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, which was a big part of her life. Mary Kaye was also an active member of United Methodist Women, and past president of Wayne/Union County Medical Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer for many community organizations.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Roy K. Hunteman; daughters, Susan Dormans of Valencia, California and Melissa (Chris) Jordan of Richmond, Indiana; son David Hunteman also of Richmond; grandchildren Grace, Lily and Theo Dormans all of Valencia, California; and brother Steve Wright of Greencastle, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation for Mary Kaye Hunteman will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m. Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 East Main Street, Richmond, Indiana, with Pastor Joseph Seger officiating. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
