Joe Vernon Cox, age 83, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, at his home.

He was born on the family farm in Carlos, Indiana on June 9, 1939, to Charles Edgar & Bertha Cox. He graduated from Economy High School, Economy, Indiana. Joe loved all kinds of sports, especially baseball. His father was a huge Yankee fan so it wasn’t any doubt that he would name his first son after Joe DiMaggio and “Lefty” Vernon Gomez. He later turned into a Reds fan, because he thought ball players were being paid too much. Joe retired from Dana Corp. (Perfect Circle) after 30 years of service. His passion was getting a 1941 Ford Pickup restored as best he could. This started with encouragement from Murray Winters. Later in life his next passion was to put Legos together, which he ended up having over 300 displays.

Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma (Allen); four sons, Mike (Donna), Jeff (Claudia), Doug (Debbie), and Tony (Ulises); 9 grandchildren, Michele (John) Owens, Dennis (Jesse) Cox, Tyler (Margie) Cox, Matthew (Nikki) Cox, Krysten (Tony) Schmidt, MacKenzie Cox, Cooper Cox, Sean (Kristen) Cox, and Matthew Lear; fourteen great grandchildren with another one due next year. Joe will be missed by sister, Phyllis Ann Cox of Richmond, and brother John (Jane) Cox of Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Herman, Dale and Ted Cox.

Visitation for Joe Vernon Cox will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Annie Glen officiating. Entombment will be in Earlham Memorial Mausoleum.
