Jean “Sis” Cannon, 97, of New Castle, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle. She was born September 13, 1925 in New Castle, Indiana, the daughter of the late Harold and Julia (McCormack) Cannon.
She attended Christian College in Columbia, Missouri, for her undergraduate degree and received her master’s degree from Ball State University. Jean taught at various schools in Muncie, Florida, California and Wilbur Wright Elementary in New Castle, retiring in 1976. She was a director of a residence hall at Ball State University until 1991. Jean was a member of ISTA and a volunteer at Henry Community Hospital. She was a member of St. Anne Women’s Society and enjoyed her walks at New Castle High School Field house & YMCA.
Survivors include a nephew, Ron (Janet) Cannon of Rockville; niece, Sandy (Omer) Brown of Massachusetts; great nephew, Shane (Sommer) Cannon of Springport; great niece, Veronica Collins of Pendleton, and their children: Dillon and Kylie Cannon, and Andrew and Brody Collins; special friend, Paulette (Mike) Lees of New Castle.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, James & Sally Cannon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, October 22, 2022 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father John Hall officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am until time of Mass on Saturday at the church. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Henry County Humane Society, 11 Midway Dr. New Castle, IN 47362. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
