Donald L. Flanigan, age 92, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family.
Born February 3, 1930, in Bridgeport, Illinois, to Amos Alfred and Garnet Athleyn Zehner Flanigan, Donald was a resident of this community for several years. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1947. Donald received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1951, and his master’s degree from Ball State. He was a teacher at Dennis Middle School for over 40 years and taught at Pleasant View for 2 years. Donald loved gardening, woodworking, and sporting clays. He was a member of the National Education Association, Optimist Noon Club, and a member of the former Chester Heights United Methodist Church in Richmond, Indiana. Donald was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Beverly Jeanne Haun Flanigan; son, Dennis Lee (Kimberly Chapman) Flanigan of Richmond, Indiana; daughter, Kathleen Flanigan of Greenfield, Indiana; granddaughter, Kelly Ann (Stephen Sandlin) Flanigan; grandsons, Kurtis Lee Flanigan, Jason (Danielle) Barnhizer, Josh Barnhizer; great-grandchildren, Kurtis Kayden, Atreyu Tiberius, Winry May; special friend, Wayne Chapman; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Donald L. Flanigan will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
