Darryll Lee Morehead, Sr., 70, of Connersville went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, December 16, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Darryll was born November 26, 1952 in Batesville, Indiana. He is the son of Bob (Dottie) Morehead and Shirley Alberstein, and moved to Connersville with his family in 1975.
On May 26, 1979, he was married to Mary Beth Doyle at her parents’ home, the late Alvin and Verena Doyle. Mrs. Morehead survives.
Darryll was employed at Ready Machine Tool and Die Company for 25 years. He was then employed at the Fayette County Cemetery Department. During his time with the department, he proudly published a guide book, the Fayette County Pioneer Cemetery Guide. He was then employed by the City of Connersville Street Department, where he served as Assistant Superintendent, then Superintendent, in three administrations.
As an extension of his love of fishing, Darryll owned Shoreline Bait and Boat Storage near Quakertown State Recreation Area for several years. He was a member of Crosspointe Biker Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, taking “therapeutic convertible rides” and sharing weekly get-togethers with his “beer 30” family.
Besides his wife of 43 years, Mary Beth Morehead, survivors include four children, Dawn (Jonathon) Farley of El Paso, Texas, Misty (Michael) Vaughn of Fountain City, Indiana, Craig (Sarah) Morehead of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Amber (Nicholas) Allen of Connersville; fourteen grandchildren, Ashlie (Damon) Shelby, Matthew Boatman, Nelson Morehead, Mason Morehead, Sera Friend, Mercedes Vaughn, Elizabeth Bowling, Storm Farley, Blake Morehead, Draven Vaughn, Alek Morehead, Jameson Allen, Ivy Morehead, and Harlan Morehead; eight great grandchildren, Lydia, Kyler, Parker, Ceriah, Keston, Malia, Novella, and Estella; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Morehead of Connersville; two sisters, Joy Long of Greenfield, Indiana and Sherry Kessinger of Clarksville, Indiana; two brothers, Morrie Abbott of Connersville and Ronnie Bradford of LaPorte, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, out-laws, and friends, as well as countless surrogate “children” who found guidance and acceptance from a man who went out of his way to ensure all were welcomed and loved.
Darryll was preceded in death by a son, Darryll Lee Morehead, Jr. who passed away July 9, 2014; his parents; a grandson, Joseph Friend; a great grandson, Greyson Shelby; five brothers, Mikel Bradford, Kirk Matthews, Randy “Giz” Morehead, Randy Shepler, and Billie Shepler.
Friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Lovett officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Lick Creek Cemetery.
