About a dozen area fireworks shows are planned before and after Independence Day.
Friday, June 27
- The red-white-and-boom season begins at Wayne County 4-H Fair, 861 Salisbury Road N., Richmond. Those entering the fairgrounds after 4 p.m. will pay $5 per vehicle to park beyond the main gate, or fairgoers can walk in for $2 each.
Saturday, June 28
- Centerville Youth League has planned a show at its ballpark at 100 Temple Drive, which is near the 400 block of South Morton Avenue in Centerville.
- Preble County Historical Society is offering its Old Fashioned Independence Day Celebration from 4-10 p.m. (rain date June 29) at 7693 Swartsel Road in Eaton, Ohio. Eaton Community Choir will perform at 4 p.m., followed by Eaton Area Community Band at 5. Preble County Line Band and Flat Out bands will perform later. The museum will be open and food trucks will be available, along with kids’ activities offered by U.S. National Guard and face painting. Parking is $20 per vehicle.
- Hummel Drive-In Theatre, 2870 Indiana 32, Winchester, is also offering a display. Gates open at 7 p.m.; movies play after the fireworks. It’s a cash-only facility.
Friday, July 4
- Hagerstown plans to celebrate Independence Day at its airport, 999 S. Washington St.
- West Alexandria, Ohio, offers bounce houses, food and raffles at Peace Park from 1-7 p.m. before fireworks at Twin Valley Community Schools, 100 Education Drive.
Saturday, July 5
- Food and festivities start at 6 p.m. at Cambridge City’s Creitz Park (entrance in the 100 block of North Foote Street) with three food trucks and face painting services. Cambridge City Chamber of Commerce, Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169 and Cambridge City Fire Department sponsor the fireworks.
- Roosevelt Hill at Richmond’s Glen Miller Park (2200 E. Main St.) is the site for Harry Ray American Legion Post 65’s fireworks and Whitewater Broadcasting’s Freedom Jam. Music begins around 7 p.m. and headliner The Smileys Band will play from 8-9:45 p.m. More than a dozen vendors will offer food and wares. The rain date is July 12.
- Hueston Woods State Park, 5201 Lodge Road, College Corner, Ohio, is offering is annual Thunder Saturday event behind the lodge. Admission is free. Music and food sales begin at 5 p.m. No coolers, drones or pets are permitted.
July 12
- Fountain City’s celebration takes place at the East Ball Diamonds, 701 W. Fountain City Pike. Additional sponsors are sought. Call 765-238-7075 for more information.
July 19
- Scarrette Pyrotechnics notes that fireworks are planned in Williamsburg. More details are expected soon.
Richmond fireworks fund still $6,500 short
Harry Ray American Legion Post 65 is still about $6,500 short of its fundraising goals for its July 5 fireworks show at Glen Miller Park.
John Renfro, who helps organize the festivities, said the money needs to be raised by the end of June. If the campaign is still short, the planned $25,000 show will be scaled down.

Whitewater Broadcasting’s G101.3 FM is organizing its annual Fireworks 5K fundraiser at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 28, in Glen Miller Park, 2200 E. Main St., Richmond, to benefit the Legion’s fireworks fund. It’s $20 in advance or $25 that day. Registration is available at g1013.com or by texting RUN to 765-939-1013.
