A new local event will feature food trucks, nearly 70 vendors, dancers, singers and a bounce house.

The Black Expo will take place from noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at First Bank Kuhlman Center, 861 Salisbury Road N., Richmond.

Organizers say the indoor event, which celebrates Black culture and heritage, is open to all, and admission is free.

The Black Legacy Project of Wayne County is bringing together entertainers, local organizations and information providers alongside vendors offering fee-based services, food and products.

Performers are to include Xpressions of Faith dancers from Indianapolis, Wayne County Writers student poets, and DJ Mark Miller.

Kids can mingle in a specially designed corner with a bounce house, games and other activities sponsored by The Crystal Dreams Foundation’s student entrepreneurship program.

Vendors plan to offer face painting, wares and information about their businesses ranging from cakes to jewelry, books, event planning, apparel, crafts, hair care, health products and emotional well-being.

Several of the registered vendors are Wayne County nonprofit organizations showcasing health resources and arts, culture and social amenities. A few examples include Centerstone Foster Care, Reid Health Community Engagement, Wayne County Health Department, Neighborhood Health Center, Meridian Health Services, Quinn Masonic Lodge 28, Levi & Catharine Coffin State Historic Site and Richmond Art Museum.

Additional support for the expo comes from organizations including Townsend Community Center Inc., Ivy Tech Community College, NAACP Branch #3066 and Indiana University East.
