Local communities soon will have 11 new murals, thanks to the Wayne County Mural Program Competition. One of those is a community mural, which was painted Saturday and Sunday on Dublin Community Club, 1764 S. Foundry Road, Cambridge City.
The creation led by Joy Hernandez of Indianapolis brightens the gray building that’s home to Dublin’s indoor skating rink and site for birthday parties, reunions and other rentals.
The new murals will join the 90-plus created in years past around the county.
Artists Kathy and Emily Garnes of Carmel have started their mural on American House, 101 W. Main St., Centerville. Carl Leck of Indianapolis also is progressing on the Economy Gymnasium at 324 Poplar St.
Other locations and artists soon to begin:
Dublin: Maintenance building, 407 N. Johnson St.; Gavin Goode, Carmel
East Germantown: 501 E. Main St.; Dean Davis, Whitehouse, Ohio
Hagerstown: The Boot Box, 60 W. Main St.; Chris Catalogna, Fort Wayne
Mount Auburn: Lakeview Restaurant, 1219 W. National Road; Holly Sims, Anderson

A location is pending for the 11th mural.
The tentative completion date for the competition is Aug. 31.
Contest funding comes through Wayne County’s Hoosier Enduring Legacy Program (HELP), Wayne County Foundation and Wayne County Convention & Tourism Bureau Inc.
Pamela Bliss, who attended Lincoln High School and has cultivated a career painting many murals around Wayne County, Indianapolis and beyond, is managing the competition, along with the tourism bureau.
