Northeastern’s winter guard has won three competitions so far this season in Ohio contests.

The Fountain City school, and some nearby Randolph County, Indiana, and Preble County, Ohio, groups are competing in Mid East Performance Association’s percussion and winter guard contests.

  • On Feb. 22 at Trent Arena in Kettering, Northeastern’s Damsels finished first, surpassing 16 other schools in their Scholastic Regional A division.

The Damsels earned 73.890 points, defeating Clinton-Massie with 71.950. Randolph County finished eighth with 65.080. Other competitors included Grove City, Waynesville, Elder, Finneytown, Archbishop Alter, Lakota East, Troy, Indian Lake, Butler, West Carrollton, Brookville, Miamisburg, Versailles and Kettering JV.

  • Northeastern won its division during a seven-school contest on Feb. 2 at Northmont. With 69.260 points, the Damsels surpassed second-place finisher Clinton-Massie with 60.740. Other competitors included Archbishop Alter, Indian Lake, Kettering JV, Brookville and Butler.
  • Randolph County winter guard finished fifth on Feb. 1 in Hamilton. Northeastern didn’t compete that day.
  • The Damsels finished first during their opening Jan. 25 contest at Miamisburg, earning 65.280 points. The next highest score was the host school with 62.990. Randolph County finished seventh. Additional competitors included Versailles, Milton-Union, Grove City, West Carrollton, Indian Lake, Westerville and Butler.

The Damsels will compete again March 9 at Centerville (Ohio) High School in Dayton and in circuit championships on March 29.

Indiana contests

Centerville, Hagerstown, New Castle and Connersville groups are competing in Indiana High School Color Guard Association events across the state.

Hagerstown earned silver in its Feb. 22 Festival Class competition at Terre Haute South.

Centerville finished eighth with its “Into the Limelight” show at Northview in Brazil, Indiana, on March 1. The Blue Wave faced New Palestine, Franklin Community, Terre Haute South, Muncie Central, Kokomo, NorthWood and Owen Valley in its division. 

Blue Wave will perform its show for the public at 7 p.m. Monday, March 17, in its high school gym, 507 Willow Grove Road, Centerville. Admission is free.

Hagerstown and New Castle Premiere earned silver in their classes on March 1 in Zionsville. 

New Castle came in seventh and Connersville’s Crimson Guard finished 11th during their competitions at Zionsville.
