Vacancies for three elected officials who resigned in recent weeks are in the process of being filled in Economy and Centerville.

Wayne County Republican Party Chair Gary Saunders is filling the two town council seats previously held by Jim Lewis and Michelle Bunger. Their resignations were effective at the end of December.

Because Economy only has one precinct, Saunders can make the appointment rather than conduct a party caucus.

Saunders is working with Economy’s current council members to find replacements.

He’s also coordinating a Republican caucus in Centerville to fill that town’s open Ward 1 council seat.

James Bullen resigned at the Dec. 27 council meeting and submitted a letter Jan. 8 to town officials.

Saunders received a copy of Bullen’s resignation letter from Wayne County Clerk Debbie Berry last Thursday. From that date (Jan. 12), the caucus must take place within 30 days.

Saunders said he’s working with Centerville’s Clerk-Treasurer Richard Tincher to set a date and select an available location.
