Gilbert M. “Gil” Turner, age 88, passed away on Sunday October 16, 2022 at Reid Health. He was born in McMinnville, TN on June 28, 1934 to Arthur and Ethel Stembridge Turner. Gil grew up in Delaware County, attended and graduated from Royerton High School in 1954 and served in the United States Army. He graduated from Ball State University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in teaching. Gil met Marilyn Joyce Parker while attending Ball State and the two were married on July 7, 1960; they were married for 48 years before her passing in 2009. He was a teacher at Richmond High School where he taught science, health and drivers’ education and coached basketball and golf. Gil was an active member of the Elks Lodge and the YMCA and was also a Red Cross volunteer. Gil was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons Kevin Turner (Diana), Kelly (Karen) Turner and Kris (Kay) Turner; grandchildren Michele (John) Owens, Dennis (Jesse) Cox, Kyle Turner, Kristie Turner, Morgan (Jake) Lynd, Quentin Turner and Evelyn Turner; great-grandchildren Kody Morris Turner, Carter Owens, Jamie Cox, Kaden Cox, A.J. Owens and Kaylyn Cox; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Gil is preceded in death by his siblings Lynn Turner and Jane Hiatt.
A memorial service will be held for Gil at Riggle-Waltermann Mortuary on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 4:00 P.M.; with a visitation from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. Rev. Phil Hodgkin will officiate.
