NEW PALESTINE – Leslie Slinker, age 101, of New Palestine, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
Leslie was born June 16, 1921. After graduating from high school in Shelbyville, KY, he served in WWII from 1940-1945, where he earned the Purple Heart.
He married Ila Mae Holtzclaw on June 14, 1947. He graduated from Canterbury College in Danville, IN in 1949.
He began teaching/coaching in Centerville, IN. That was the beginning of his career in education that would include principal at Webster, IN, principal and superintendent at Union School Corporation, and finally middle school principal and assistant superintendent in New Palestine School District.
He cherished his wife, Ila Mae who predeceased him, and was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family more than anything.
Survivors include daughters, Becky (Denny) Emery and Anita (Steve) Kelsey; sons, Gary Slinker and Jeff (Jill) Slinker; grandchildren, Stacy (Jamie) Purcell, Amy (Paul Holle) Phillip, Wes (Anna) Kendall, Mike Kelsey, Matt (Anna) Kelsey, Josh (Ashley Williamson) Slinker, Zach Slinker, and Emily (Kurtis) Fox; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private family services will take place October 1, 2022. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.
