Richmond Police Department investigators traveled to New York late last week as part of their investigation into a man’s suspicious death here.
That trip led to a 50-year-old woman being arrested on a murder charge, police announced Saturday evening (Dec. 19).
The investigation began Dec. 14, when second-shift patrol officers responded to the 400 block of Commerce Road on a request for a welfare check. That far-east area of Richmond near the state line is home to some lodging, restaurants and entertainment venues, among other businesses.
Officers located Roy Redford, 58, of Canaseraga, New York, who was found dead with a bullet wound.
Canaseraga is a village in western New York that had a population of 550 at the 2010 Census.
On Dec. 17, RPD Capt. Curt Leverton announced an investigation into Redford’s suspicious death was taking place. (The bullet wound was not mentioned in that news release).
Leverton said New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations – Troop A immediately became involved in the case upon a request from RPD.
At about 10:30 p.m. Dec. 18, Josephine Scott, also of Canaseraga, was arrested in Belmont, New York, on a murder charge in Redford’s death.
Belmont, New York, is about 30 minutes southwest of Canaseraga, not to be confused with the famous Belmont Park horseracing facility just east of the New York City limits about five hours away.
Scott’s arrest was made after an investigation that included several search warrants being served in Canaseraga. Leverton said officers located several pieces of evidence through the search warrants.
