Cambridge City council conducted a brief special meeting Monday, Sept. 29, to approve payments for construction of the new performance venue to meet state deadlines for grant reporting.

The outdoor structure for concerts and other types of entertainment and community gatherings was built at the western edge of Creitz Park, behind the fire station at 127 W. Maple St.

Beyond the town’s contribution, funding for the venue came from a community development block grant from Indiana’s Office of Rural and Community Affairs.

Some projects remain to make the facility as welcoming as possible. Those costs are expected to be paid through Wayne County Foundation’s successful application for Lilly Endowment’s Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow VIII initiative.

Council President Jim McLane said he expected about $80,000 in GIFT VIII funding could be used for items such as signage, seating, tables, landscaping, seeding and security cameras. He was to meet Oct. 1 with Acacia St. John, Forward Wayne County’s director, to discuss those plans.

McLane said he hoped to have quotes for some of those amenities by the next town council meeting, which is 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in town hall, 127 N. Foote St. The public may attend.
