Another Caring For Cambridge free disposal day has been scheduled, but with shorter hours than the spring event.
Trash can be dropped off starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.
The collection will end no later than 2 p.m., and possibly earlier, whenever the two dumpsters at 152 S. Green St. in Cambridge City are filled.
Volunteer help is available throughout the week or on Saturday for those who need items hauled away.
Western Wayne County residents are encouraged to clean up their yards, homes and garages, and take advantage of the free disposal day. Cambridge City Main Street organizes the event.
Residents can get rid of a variety of junk, but no tires, hazardous waste or electronics will be accepted.
Scout Troop 3 also traditionally collects scrap metal, including large appliances, at the cleanup, keeping items out of the landfill through recycling and earning money for troop activities by selling the metal.
Some items the Scouts will accept include gutters, tools, barbecue grills, mowers, air conditioners, patio furniture, bicycles, fencing, aluminum cans, and batteries for cars, motorcycles, boats or riding toys. Scouts will be available to unload vehicles.
Those who need assistance hauling their items or cleaning their properties can call or text 812-327-7391 and request help from a volunteer.
Additional volunteers are needed and are encouraged to register in advance via phone as well.
Because of fewer volunteers signing up during early planning, yard waste will not be accepted at Riverside Cemetery during this collection.
