Centerville-Abington Community Schools is already setting its 2026-2027 calendar, but must deal with some technology and financial challenges in the meantime.

Calendar

After Centerville Education Association reviewed and approved the 2026-27 school year calendar, it was the school board’s turn to discuss the updates at its April 23 meeting. They unanimously approved it.

Students’ first day will be Aug. 5. Early dismissal is planned Sept. 9, Nov. 11 and March 31 for professional development.

Breaks are Oct. 26-30, Nov. 25-27, Dec. 21-Jan. 1 and March 22-26.

School will be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. If needed, Feb. 15 and April 12 will be weather makeup days.

Students’ last day will be May 20. Graduation is tentatively scheduled for June 6, depending on makeup days.

Software

Superintendent Mike McCoy presented two new software options for accounting and human resources after initiating a conversation at the board’s April meeting.

CACS’ current program, SDS, is out of date. Its annual cost, $18,252.35, is much lower than the two new choices.

The board favored Komputrol, which supports 60% of Indiana schools and offers everything needed in one package. It is $48,964 annually. Komputrol also will handle the data conversion from SDS at a maximum of $50,000.

SSI requires piecing desired items together, and costs $110,081.99 annually. Its conversion would cost another $81,412.

The Rainy Day Fund will be used.
