An organization serving those who’ve experienced domestic violence or sexual assault has a new office.

A Better Way has moved to 66 S. 12th St. in Richmond.

Leaders say the new office provides a welcoming environment for staff and visitors, space for collaboration, and enhanced outreach capabilities.

A Better Way serves all ages and genders in Wayne and surrounding counties.

The organization has left its previous home at 15 S. 11th St., which in earlier years had made rooms available for women and their children while getting reestablished. Wayne Township Trustee’s Office purchased their building in November.

Trustee Susan Isaacs said that the main level of the building will be its offices and meeting spaces, and the lower level’s use is being finalized.

The local advocacy organization, formerly known as Genesis, became part of Muncie-based A Better Way in October of 2021.

The organization continues to operate a shelter in Muncie where local residents can stay when needed. However, many local clients prefer its mobile advocacy efforts and meet with staff in their homes, libraries, schools or other locations where they feel comfortable seeking support.

During A Better Way’s 2023-2024 fiscal year, it served 310 nonresidential survivors through its Richmond and Muncie locations.

Services provided included support groups, individual counseling, legal advocacy and protective order assistance. At the Richmond office, 92 support groups were facilitated during that year.
