Greens Fork Community Center is welcoming new members, donations and facility renters in hopes of addressing its building and programming needs in the new year.

In an open letter, the center’s five board members and facility manager note the nonprofit center faced several financial hardships in 2024.

Some of the center’s needs include replacing the central air unit and repaving the parking lot at 117 E. Pearl St.

Last September, the center’s outdoor shelter was burned, but insurance won’t cover the total replacement cost. An additional $8,000 is needed to rebuild the shelter and two picnic tables.

Indiana’s Chapter of International Association of Arson Investigators, Indiana State Fire Marshal and property insurance companies have offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to conviction of those responsible for the fire.

In addition to donations, membership fees and facility rentals help with the center’s maintenance and programming expenses. Memberships are $30 per year per family. Lifetime memberships are $500.

Several activities are offered at the center by the board or other local organizations, including Easter and Christmas parties, monthly community dinners, and trick-or-treat. Additional suggestions are welcome.

The next public event is a free community meal from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, when Greens Fork United Methodist Church will serve chicken and noodles with side dishes.

In addition to programming, the board awarded two $500 scholarships to local high school seniors.

Four-hour rentals for special events are $40 for members and $80 for nonmembers.

New members are asked to submit their name, mailing address and phone number along with a payment to P.O. Box 36, Greens Fork, IN 47345, or pay at account.venmo.com/u/GreensFork-CommunityCenter-2.
