Author extravaganza returns to Cambridge City

Those who enjoy books — or those who want to get a head start on holiday shopping — can meet nearly two dozen Midwest writers, including a USA Today Bestselling Author, and browse their creations at an upcoming fair.

The second Indiana Author Extravaganza takes place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Cambridge City Public Library, 600 W. Main St.

Admission is free. Last year, most books ranged from $5 to $20. 

Authors from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Kentucky will offer fiction and nonfiction books in a variety of genres for children, teens and adults.

Their genres include mystery, romance and rom-com, devotional, travel, horror, history, cozy, sci-fi, fantasy, fairy tales, biography and memoirs.

Friends of the Cambridge City Public Library hosts the growing event, patterned after similar fairs in larger cities.

Organizers share these descriptions of participating authors:

• Anne Holtsclaw Meyer is an English teacher turned disability specialist, turned Methodist deacon, turned Agatha Christie disciple. Her newest book “‘Judge Not,’ Said the Deacon” is a murder mystery.
• April Decton lives in Indiana where she raised two daughters. When not reading or writing, April enjoys time with family, attending church, traveling and toes in sand.
• Ariella Talix is a bestselling Indiana author. She serves up contemporary and historical romantic suspense with a healthy side of humor. Extra spice is always included.
• B.A. Paul started writing epic space sagas using dull pencils on wide-ruled notebook paper in grade school. Find her books and short story collections at bapaul.com.
• Barbara Meade grew up as a Quaker. Her writings reveal her many life experiences and her faith in Christ and highlight the memories of a great family.
• Bess Sturgis is an Indiana author with an international readership. Her children’s books were nominated for the 2019 and 2020 Penned Con Awards for Best Children’s Author.
• Charles Kelley grew up in southern Indiana. His writings include his blog, his webpage of short stories, and his Kings of Chaos Motorcycle Club series.
• Clara Johns and her husband of 58 years live in Indiana. She is the grandmother of three girls who are the characters in her book, “Hiking Along.”
• Curt Elliot’s childhood was as magical and wholesome as Mayberry, until it wasn’t. “The Truck Patch” is an emotional roller coaster of healing and fond memories.
• Danita Jennings wrote her recently published book over 30 years ago as a bedtime story for her children. The beach and the ocean are her happy places.
• Deborah Musick is a former children’s librarian and hospice chaplain. Currently, she is a storyteller as a character called Apple Annie and a chaplain.
• Eleanor Pershing spent time in Liberia, West Africa, on the West Africa Trauma team teaching counseling skills to those dealing with the trauma of war.
• Eva Reece is the author of the popular Brownie Calf picture books. Her romance novel, “The Spinster and the Handyman” is her first general fiction book.
• Jamie Ward is the author of “100 Things To Do In Indiana Before You Die” and co-authored “Midwest Road Trip Adventures” and “Midwest State Park Adventures.” Learn more at  https://fieldsandheels.com/
• Jean Scarbrough was a missionary for many years in several countries, sharing her faith. She kept journals & finally put her thoughts in the wonderful book, “One Woman’s Journey.”
• Lorry Kirschner often reads on her back porch, while listening to the corn whisper as the summer breeze travels through. She has an interest in history and historical places.
• Lynette Eklund is a Hollywood creature effects artist and author. Walt Disney’s Legendary Imagineer and Jim Henson Muppeteer Terri Hardin creates the illustrations for her fantasy books.
• Mellanie Szereto is the USA Today Bestselling Author of over 40 rom-coms and contemporary romances. Her stories are often set in small towns with seasoned main characters, fun secondary casts and lots of humor.
• Michelle L. Paivola has lived a real-life fairy tale. Raised in an orphanage and foster homes, she found her true love and celebrated her wedding in a castle.

• Shelley Davis is the owner of Kids at Heart Publishing LLC in Cambridge City. She has published 18 books of her own and over 80 books by local and national authors.
• Shirley Thacker: Children, family, teachers, and the community will agree, Shirley Thacker’s joy of writing drives her to help caregivers and community through her charitable works.
• T.D. Andrews has been a teacher for 32 years. She loves her family, traveling, history, gardening and reading. She is an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
