William E. “Bill” Carter, 76, of Spiceland, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. He was born June 4, 1946 in Marion County, IN, a son of the late Edward E. and Norma Catherine (Bailey) Carter.
Bill retired from Chrysler Corp. in New Castle in 2000 following 35 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local #371. An active member of Spiceland Church of the Nazarene, he had served as usher, Sunday School teacher, and served on the church board. He also served on the Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years, was a Scout Master for several years, and was the camp cook for the Girl Scouts. Bill was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, wood worker, and Mr. Fix-It for the family. He loved walking the beach with his wife, Rosemary, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was also a member of Fishers of Men and the McNuggets.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years, Rosemary (Bex) Carter of Spiceland; four children, Tim (Margie) Carter of New Castle, Tammy (Vic) Neal of Hagerstown, Tracy Spurgin of Greenfield, and Gabby Carter of Spiceland; nine grandchildren, Tim (Jada) Carter of New Castle, Amanda Hamilton of Indianapolis, Rosella (Nestor) Linares-Muller of New Castle, Billy (Tiffany) Neal of Spencer, Lee (Melissa) Spurgin of Knightstown, Anna (Chance) Hendrickson of Wilkinson, Cody Carter, Seth (Marissa) Carter, all of Muncie, Seth Colburn of Spiceland; thirteen great grandchildren, Bailey, Carter, Marlon, Matthew, Allison, Asher, Ben, Judah, Camrie, McKinlee, Maisyn, Raegan, and Liam; brother, Steve Carter of Spiceland; sister, Jane (Mike) Smith of Spiceland; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Edward and Norma Carter, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenny Carter; a brother, Thomas Carter; and his in-laws, Dennis and Opal Bex.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m. noon on, Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Spiceland Church of the Nazarene officiated by Pastors Josh Robertson and Mark Herbkersman. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2023 at Spiceland Church of the Nazarene, and an hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
