Sandy House is a very familiar face to summer fairgoers. During the week-long Wayne County 4-H Fair, she can be seen making countless trips in her golf cart to make sure the annual event is running smoothly.
Recently, House was inducted into the Indiana Association of Fairs Hall of Fame, the first person to be inducted from Wayne County since this award was started in 1985. Each year, one person is nominated from each of the four statewide districts for their efforts related to their county’s fair.
“I am honored to receive this award but didn’t get this by myself,” House said. “It’s from years of great 4-H families, committee members and my family always having my back and helping to promote Wayne County 4-H Fair in many ways.”
The INAF is an organization where fellow fair/festival leaders can exchange ideas and attend educational sessions to help ensure the success of their events.
“We believe in doing whatever it takes to keep our fairs alive. Education of agriculture is so important to everyone. Wayne County Fair joined the International Association of Fairs and Exposition to help and learn from more sources and fairs what our future fairs need to look like.”
House also received a scholarship from Coca-Cola to attend a four-day convention in Indianapolis to extend her education in the field.
“We never stop learning from others and hope I can encourage others to keep giving back. We hope if you attend the fair in June. You will have a great time and learn something new.”
