Connersville Native Shirley A. Towler Stant, 86, died Tuesday, January 17th, 2023, at The Springs of Richmond.
One of eleven children, Shirley was born on February 16, 1936, to Carl and Margaret Lyons Towler. She attended and graduated from Alquina School with the class of 1954. After graduation, Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper at Cecil Isaacs insurance agency where she met her husband Robert “Bob” Stant; they shared thirty-nine years prior to his death in 1994.
Shirley was later employed as a secretary to the principle of Orange River Elementary for 28 years. She was a lifetime member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in Fort Myers, Florida and a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority in Connersville. Shirley was also a garden club member where she competed in walking flower shows. She enjoyed working needlepoint and cross-stitch projects as well as, repurposing furniture, and redecorating her house. More than anything, she loved spending time with her adoring family, whom will miss her dearly.
Shirley is survived by her daughters: Sherral Stant, Kim (Shane) Beach of Connersville, Son: David Stant of Georgia; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Brad) Hahn of Connersville, Sarah (Terry) Sykes of Florida, David (Renee) Stant Jr of Georgia; great-grandchildren: Alan, Owen, Leland, Jackson, Terry Jr, Bentley; great-grandchild: Terry III; brothers: Larry (Ruth) Towler, Richard (Kathy) Towler of Florida, Paul (Diana) Towler of Connersville; sisters: Kathy Hill of Connersville, Debbie May of Florida, Teresa (Donnie) Rose and Nancy (Preston) Foster of Connersville; sister-in-law: Patty Towler of Liberty; many extended family members including nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her brother: Rick E. Towler; sisters: Lois Joan Towler and Bertie Lou Towler McKenna; brothers-in-law: Gene May and Leo Hill.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00p.m., Friday, January 27th, 2023, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1:00p.m, until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Fayette County Humane Society in Shirley’s honor.
