Doris Jean Gay, 78, of Greencastle, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born October 11, 1944 in Connersville to Francis and Barbara Wenger Lingg and graduated from Connersville High School. For most of her life, Doris resided in Connersville.
On April 2, 1982, she married Henry Gay at the Hamilton, Ohio Courthouse. Mr. Gay survives.
For twenty years, Doris worked as a payroll specialist for Frigidaire until her retirement.
A devoted Christian, she was a longtime member of Harrisburg Christian Church and Baptist Temple prior to moving to Greencastle. She was very active in her churches and avid in her personal Bible studies. She also volunteered in local schools.
In her leisure, she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, basket weaving, gardening, and canning. She also loved cooking and baking for her loved ones.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Henry Gay of Greencastle; five children, Tara (Timothy) Smith of Bainbridge, Indiana, Victoria Russell of Connersville, Angela (Chris) Osborne of Easley, South Carolina, Melissa Gay of Missoula, Montana, and Benita Reed of Booneville, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Nicole Russell and Rupert Russell; a great granddaughter, Candice Moore; two siblings, Marie A. Ketcham of Connersville and David J. (Sharon) Lingg of Connersville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Thomas Lingg, who passed away September 12, 2022.
Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Joe Ferreira officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.
