Six young women are competing for the opportunity to be Wayne County 4-H Fair queen.

Their competition takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Centerville Senior High School’s auditorium. 507 Willow Grove Road, Centerville. Admission is $5 for ages 10 and older.

Queen contestants must be between ages 16 and 21. They’ll be judged on public speaking, the ability to converse, poise and personality.

Divisions will include professional wear, private interviews, evening gown, impromptu and prepared speech. The private interviews are worth 45 points. Professional wear and evening gown can earn a maximum of 20 points each. Impromptu and prepared speech each count for 10 points.

The winner will be highly encouraged to enter the state queen contest in January.

Younger students also have an opportunity to take part this weekend. The local contest also includes 10 teens, 12 preteens and 10 juniors who want to serve at the fair, which takes place June 21-28.

Participants represent nearly every community across the county and a few neighboring communities. Contestants may live in adjoining Indiana counties if a majority of their activities are in Wayne County.
