Beginning with our March 13 edition, the Western Wayne News will be printed and delivered to subscribers and retail locations one day later in the week. This is a change we think many of you will notice, so I want to share a bit more about why we’re making it.

At the core of what we do as a newspaper is making sure that our pages are printed at the highest possible level of quality, and that they reliably get in your hands on time each week. We depend heavily on several vendors to make this possible, none more so than our printing partner that actually puts ink to paper and gets the papers ready for us to sort and deliver to you.

In recent months we realized that to achieve that level of quality and reliability for the long term, we might need to switch to a different printing vendor. This is not a simple change to make, as newspaper print shops have been disappearing across the U.S. in recent decades, and finding one in the region that could meet our specifications without making other major changes to the paper’s design required some searching. Some newspapers have to transport their print editions across multiple state lines or even national borders! Fortunately we were able to find a great, family-owned option right here in Indiana, and after meeting with their leadership team and touring their facilities, we’re confident that the change will be a positive one. We’ll plan to share more with you about the specific vendor and our printing process in a future issue.

Printers who print multiple publications manage very tight schedules for their press equipment. In this case, that means having to shift our production process to print one day later in the week than we do now. That in turn means that our papers will be leaving for area stores and post offices on Wednesdays, instead of on Tuesdays as they do now. And of course that means that for many of you, Thursday will become the new day when you receive the paper in your mailbox.

We do not make this change lightly, and would not go to the trouble if we didn’t think it was the best way to ensure the Western Wayne News can remain and grow as Wayne County’s local newspaper.

If you have any questions about this change, please get in touch. We appreciate your understanding, and thank you for reading.
