Western Wayne Elementary and Lincoln Middle/High School were locked down on the afternoon of April 18 while local law enforcement responds to a dangerous situation at a home near the former Central School.
According to a post from Lincoln Middle School/High School Principal Renee Lakes through the school’s emergency notification system, the school is on lockdown because of police activity in Cambridge City.
“…Everyone at school is safe and indoors and classes are going on,” the message read. “We will not be dismissing until the police give us the all clear. Again, we are all safe and secure here at school. We will send you another message once we know when we are dismissed.”
Emergency vehicles blocked traffic along U.S. 40 heading east from Center Street in Cambridge City and westbound from the area of Lincoln Drive.
According to scanner traffic, the person prompting the police response was being detained at about 3:50 p.m. However, law enforcement officials were not immediately ready to release students until SWAT was released and student safety could be ensured. Schools were being dismissed shortly after 4 p.m.
