After nearly five decades, the Wayne Township trustee’s office will move to a new space this week.

On May 30, it will begin serving the public at 15 S. 11th St. in Richmond.

“I love it,” Trustee Susan Isaacs said of the new space. “It’s beautiful.”

The trustee’s office has enjoyed a 50-year, rent-free contract for space on the lower level of the Wayne County Administration Building — and designated parking spaces — because of a large donation. With that contract running out soon, now’s the perfect time for the office to find its own space, Isaacs said.

The move also permits Isaacs to provide a temporary women’s shelter in the building’s basement. That won’t begin for a while, though, as Isaacs finds the “grants and gifts” to fix up the downstairs. Isaacs received a variance of use from the Richmond Board of Zoning Appeals to operate the safe housing in the former Genesis women’s shelter building.

The township trustee helps low-income households with basic needs. The office is open 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, and by appointment on Thursday. The phone number is 765-973-9392.
