Wayne County voter turnout increased ahead of the Tuesday, May 5, primary election after a slow start. Through Saturday, May 2, 3,342 ballots had been cast via mail, traveling board visits and early vote centers, according to Wayne County Clerk Tara Pegg.

Early voting began April 7 at the courthouse, with additional Saturday hours and four vote centers operating April 27-May 1 across the county. As of April 25, 810 ballots had been cast. Nearly 200 votes were added May 2.

Pegg said voting proceeded smoothly, with no mail delays reported. Voting continued Monday at the courthouse, with eight vote centers scheduled to be open for 12 hours on Election Day. Final results were not available before press time but are available online at wwn.to/election.

Worker recruitment

More Democratic and Republican party poll workers are needed to staff election roles. They can earn up to $250 per day depending on their hours and responsibilities.

Contact 765-973-9304 or voters@waynecounty.in.gov to indicate interest in working upcoming elections.

Poll workers must be registered voters and represent the political party of their choice.
