The ninth annual Indiana Frosh-Soph State Wrestling Championship for girls was held at Southport High School on Saturday, March 1. Wrestlers who finished in the top eight in the IHSAA girls state tournament were excluded from participating, but any freshman or sophomore wrestler who advanced to the IHSSA state tournament but did not place in the top eight were automatic qualifiers for this event.

Hagerstown High School sophomore Abbie Gilbert — who was the Muncie Central sectional champion and the third-place finisher at the Alexandria-Monroe regional at 125 pounds during the IHSSA state tournament — before losing her first match in the state championship, was an automatic qualifier.

Gilbert made the most of her opportunity, winning her weight class and earning the title of state freshman/sophomore champion.
