Several organizations aim to alleviate winter doldrums by planning festive dinners and gatherings that get residents off their couches. In addition to concerts and plays selling seats at the door, here are some February events requiring advance tickets:
- Feb. 2: Farmers, environmentalists and anyone else who cares about preserving drinking water and land are encouraged to attend Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual dinner and meeting. Tickets are $20 for the dinner, 6:30 p.m. at Wayne County Fairgrounds’ First Bank Kuhlman Center, 861 Salisbury Road N., Richmond. Reservations: 765-966-0191, ext. 3.
- Feb. 7: Richmond Art Museum’s Palette to Palate blends food, art and experiences from 6-10:30 p.m. at First Bank Kuhlman Center, 861 Salisbury Road N. Street casual attire is recommended. This year’s theme is “Somewhere in Time.” Those attending will see featured artists Mary Boettger, Gabriela Falconi, Heather Ward Miles and Emma Overman at work. $100/person. - Feb. 11: Cope Environmental Center is offering a Valentine-themed evening, “Love Gone Wild,” for ages 21-plus from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at 1730 Airport Road, Centerville. The program blends surprising, humorous and eye-opening stories about animal mating rituals from a director of the Cheetah Conservation Fund in a relaxed atmosphere with appetizers. - Feb. 13: Wayne County Historical Museum is organizing a Valentine’s Madrigal Dinner at 1150 N. A St., Richmond. Guests are encouraged to wear their best medieval attire for Elizabethan feasting and music performances by IU East Chorale, Richmond High School Madrigal choir and Richmond Community Choristers. A marketplace of handmade wares opens at 5 p.m. before the 6 p.m. meal. Tickets are $75 each at wwn.to/wchmval26 or at the museum.
- Feb. 18: Former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg will speak at 7 p.m. in Earlham College’s Druley Performance Gym in its Athletics & Wellness Center, 801 National Road W., Richmond. His talk will not be recorded or livestreamed. $50 tickets are sold out, join the waitlist at wwn.to/petetix.
- Feb. 21: Good News Habitat for Humanity is again offering its Hard Hats & High Heels Gala from 6-10 p.m. at the Leland Legacy, 900 S. A St., Richmond. Guests must be at least 21. Tickets are $60 each; tables of eight ($400) can be secured by calling 765-962-5986 or visiting Eventbrite.com. Highlights include Corner Cafe’s dinner, live music, live and silent auctions and a 50/50 raffle to benefit affordable home rehabilitation. Reserve by Feb. 14.
- Throughout February: Whitewater Valley Arts Association in Connersville is offering several workshops for stained glass, watercolor greeting cards and rug hooking. Class sizes are limited. Call 765-343-9822 or visit 402 N. Central Ave., Connersville to register.
