About an hour apart on Tuesday evening, Richmond police officers responded to reports of a shooting and an unrelated battery.
At approximately 8:41 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, second-shift patrol officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Hilldell Avenue on a shooting on the city’s northwest side.
Officers arrived in the area just off Peacock Road, a few blocks northwest of McBride Stadium, and located the 17-year-old victim, who had been shot in the buttocks.
The teen was reported to have been shot during an altercation between several people, according to Capt. Curt Leverton of Richmond Police Department’s Investigative Services division.
The juvenile was transported to Reid Health for treatment and was in stable condition.
Richmond detectives were called to scene to process for evidence and talk with witnesses. The investigation will continue.
A little less than an hour before the shooting, second-shift officers were dispatched to the 400 block of North West K Street in reference to a battery that had just occurred.
The call came in at about 7:52 p.m.
Responding officers located Jeffery Scott Johnson, 54, of Richmond. Johnson had multiple injuries to his head and face. Johnson was transported to Reid Health for his injuries.
At approximately 8:10 p.m., Willie D. Mills Sr., 58, of Richmond, and Willie D. Mills Jr., 32, of Richmond, were arrested on preliminary charges of robbery, burglary and aggravated battery.
Detectives were called to the scene to assist in the investigation and will continue to follow up. Evidence was collected from the scene by officers and investigators.
