Duane Hieger of Hieger Farms in Fountain City has been named a 2025 River Friendly Farmer, one of 53 Hoosier farmers recognized statewide for their commitment to protecting Indiana’s soil and water.
Hieger was honored during a special ceremony at the Indiana State Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 6, hosted by the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
The River Friendly Farmer award highlights farmers who implement conservation practices that reduce erosion, improve water quality and enhance soil health, according to a news release. Honorees are nominated by their local Soil and Water Conservation Districts for adopting responsible land management techniques that benefit both agriculture and the environment.
